The Hanged Man: Weekly Tarotcast™ – Free Tarot Reading

12-14-21 through 12-21-21

XII The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man is this week’s Tarotcast card. First, we’re invited to gain a new perspective. Then we can turn the familiar, routine or status-quo point of view on its head. This card is a depiction of surrendering the ego to gain enlightenment. That’s pretty heady stuff indeed. We get hung up and stuck focusing only on the material world. As a result, we may forget that we are a part of the Divine. We are the Universe and the Universe is us.

My preferred deck is the Thoth Tarot created by Aleister Crowley and Lady Frieda Harris. The Hanged Man is meant to “…explain… the innermost secret of life and all the mysteries of High Magick and the Universe in general.” (Lon Milo DuQuette). No small feat!

Kabbalah

On the Tree of Life, the Hanged Man travels Path 23. It joins sephiroth or sphere 5, Geburah (Severity) to sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (Splendor). This is Major Arcana card number 12, and its Hebrew letter is Mem (meaning water). Water is flowing, cleansing and purifying; such as in baptism and other rituals of rebirth.

Astrology

The Hanged Man Tarot card is the elemental trump of – you guessed it – Water. Water always seeks its own level and represents the emotions. Further, it is the strongest element and is the birthplace of life on Earth. Over 70% of the earth’s surface is water, and up to 60% of the human body is water, with our brains composed of 70% water. Do you feel a sudden need to use the bathroom?

In real-time astrology, the Sun continues its transit of Fire-sign Sagittarius. Water may be everywhere with this week’s card. But Fire rules the heavens through December 21st. On the last day of this week’s forecast, the Sun enters Earth-sign Capricorn. These energies counterpoint that of this week’s card. The unifying force is Sagittarius’ spiritual transcendence. We rise above the petty details of day-to-day living. Our faith and hope expand. We can apply our beliefs to our highest vision of life.

Capricorn inspires a practical, diligent climb to the summit.

There’s no lack of drive in this Cardinal sign. This can get us moving in constructive ways.

“Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while – I think I see my friends coming, riding many a mile. Friends, you get some silver? Did you get a little gold? What did you bring me, my dear friends to keep me from the gallows pole?”

We have a Full Moon in Air-sign Gemini on December 18th.

This Full Moon brings with it a strong need to send and receive important communication. Get your message out! We experience heightened awareness and sensitivity. Travel plans take center stage.

Venus retrogrades in Capricorn on December 19th. Through January 29th, 2022 we review our relationships and finances. We may have second thoughts about a commitment or project.

“Set me free, why don’t you, babe? Get out my life, why don’t you, babe?
‘Cause you don’t really love me – you just keep me hangin’ on…”

Love, finances and business endeavors lack clarity during this time. We’re reviewing and reflecting rather than jumping ahead to something new. This energy often brings back old friends and/or lovers. Past patterns and issues can resurface.

Shadow

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of The Hanged Man card includes being at a standstill. Feeling stuck. Resisting change. Unenlightened self-sacrifice. Martyrdom.

Light

In contrast, let’s focus on finding redemption and losing the bonds of our ego-selves this week.

Alchemy

Power colors: deep blue, sea green, deep olive green. Also gray, indigo, white and flecked or speckled purple.

Power stones: aquamarine, amethyst, blue tourmaline, pearl, coral, blue topaz, lapis and sodalite. Wear as jewelry or carry as power stones to find new perspectives. We’ll have the ability to embrace change by transcending our limitations.

Power metals: silver, mercury and copper. First, silver reminds us of the sparkle of light on water. Second, mercury is fluid and mobile. Finally, copper reminds us that change is the one constant in life.

Power fragrances: gardenia, lemon, lilac, lily of the valley along with lotus, rose and valerian. Use these to relax the physical body and free the spiritual one.

Power foods: foods prepared with apple, lemon, lettuce and lotus root. Also, thyme and seaweed (sushi!) Tea brewed from chamomile. To sum up, all provide the same beneficial effects already described.
