The Ten of Cups: Weekly Tarotcast™ – Free Tarot Reading

12-21-21 through 12-28-21

10 of Cups

The Ten of Cups is this week’s Tarotcast card. The Ten of Cups is contentment and satisfaction. This week we’ll enjoy being with our families and other loved ones. We can feel emotional stability in all our personal relationships. This includes romantic relationships too! Take time to show your appreciation for friends, family and your significant other. Also, gratitude will help you to experience the joy of this card’s influence and energy.

Even so, avoid becoming smug. This card’s energy can lead to self-satisfaction and entitled behavior. There is a tendency to become restless, dissatisfied and contentious. As a result, we may want to shake things up for the hell of it. Happiness can be fragile. Pleasure and satisfaction can be fleeting. Sometimes fulfilling a desire causes us to reject the very thing we’ve gotten. Because of this, use caution around the major pitfalls of this card.

The Elements

Here, Water’s placid, peaceful and passive natural flow is set to boil from Mars’ fiery heat. The boiling disrupts and the steam dissipates.

The Number 10

The Tens of the Minor Arcana represent completion. They are the manifestation and culmination of energy. In this case, completion gives way to new beginnings.

Kabbalah

On the Tree of Life, the Ten of Cups represents the formula 10. Sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (Kingdom). The sphere of Earth, the material world. In the suit of Cups (Briah). The creative world. The element of Water and the emotions. Plus Mars in Pisces equaling Satiety.

Astrology

The Ten of Cups corresponds to Mars in Pisces. It rules from 20 to 30 degrees Pisces, or March 11th through March 20th. So, if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. This is not the most comfortable astrological pairing. Mars energy is restless, disruptive and aggressive. It is a marked contrast to Pisces’ spirituality and peacefulness. As a result, there may be trouble brewing in Paradise.

In real-time astrology, the Sun begins its transit of Earth-sign Capricorn. On December 21st we welcome the Solstice. Many in the Northern hemisphere consider this the start of the astrological New Year. The persistent, hardworking Goat can handle responsibility. This sign is often depicted as a Sea Goat with a goat’s body and the tail of a fish. I knew there was a Pisces tie-in there somewhere!

“Oh, you’re in my blood like holy wine, you taste so bitter and so sweet.
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling – and I would still be on my feet…”

Saturn squares Uranus and Jupiter quintiles Uranus on December 24th. The Saturn square may cause some friction. This is the last of three exact aspects that occurred this year. We desire freedom but we also need and crave stability and structure. Seek a balance because you can find one. Understand that others are feeling the same internal conflict. Give yourself and them a loving pass.

“It’s bittersweet – more sweet than bitter, bitter than sweet. It’s a bittersweet surrender…”

Quintiles combine forces to create a talent or gift. This Jupiter quintile combines a freestyle, expansive approach with original thinking and innovation. What’s your superpower? This quintile may help you discover it!

On December 28th Jupiter enters Pisces. It will spend about a year transiting the sign of the Fishes despite a couple of retrograde periods. Jupiter’s expansive energy enhances our spirituality. In Pisces, we’re compassionate toward others. Our imaginations soar.

Shadow

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of the Ten of Cups includes feelings of having too much of a good thing. Being fed-up (filled up or overstuffed) with something. For example: a party guest has a few drinks and is feeling good. Then he has a few more, gets sloppy-drunk, and winds up sick and barfing all over the host’s carpet. Be forewarned.

Light

Let’s focus on being thankful in the present moment. Realize that all good things both increase and decrease in cycles. With this in mind, enjoy what there is to enjoy and release it when the time is right.

Alchemy

Power colors: red and scarlet for Mars. Flecked silvery-white for Pisces (like fish scales!)

Power stones: rubies, bloodstones and garnets (for Mars). Sapphire, emerald, amethyst and aquamarine (for Pisces). Wear as jewelry or carry as power stones to stay aware of the need for gentleness and gratitude this week.

Power metals: tin and iron. Neither is good for wearing. Both can remind us to find the happy medium, though. The middle way lies between flexibility/adaptability or rigidity/aggression/violence.

Power fragrances: rose, thistle and pine will muster up Martial courage and purpose. Pisces heliotrope, carnation and poppy will smooth out the bumps.

Power foods: foods prepared with allspice, ginger, cayenne pepper and garlic. These will enhance Mars’ energy. But avoid them if you’re feeling restless, careless or aggressive. In that case, try Pisces’ clove, sage, poppy, anise, cinnamon, mint or nutmeg instead. Careful combination can produce harmonious results. And all provide the same beneficial effects already described.
