The Five of Wands: Weekly Tarotcast™ – Free Tarot Reading

1-18-22 through 1-25-22

The Five of Wands is this week’s Tarotcast card. With the Five of Wands there’s competition and conflict in the air. Yet, these aren’t negative. Be prepared to stand your ground. Don’t give up or give in. But keep in mind that conflict needn’t include aggression. Healthy competition allows us to showcase our abilities and prove our skills. Expect excited, heated discussions and debates. The rapid exchange of diverse ideas can cause the best to rise to the top. On the other hand, things can degenerate into hostility and bickering. Choose well.

The Elements

Leo Fire under the weight and pressure of Saturn lead creates a volcanic energy. It creates and destroys at the same time.

The Number 5

The Fives of the Minor Arcana challenge order and structure. Their suit and element get shaken out of complacency, stagnation or stasis. They bring a period of cleansing, regeneration, or reassessment in events and relationships. The number 5 keeps energy flowing. Otherwise, the solidification and stability created by the fours would degenerate into inertia.

Kabbalah

On the Tree of Life, the Five of Wands card represents the formula 5. Sephiroth or sphere 5, Geburah (Strength). The sphere of Mars. Motion, storm and stress. In the suit of Wands (Atziluth). The archetypal world; the element of Fire – the will. Plus, Saturn in Leo equaling Strife.

Astrology

The Five of Wands represents Saturn in Leo. It rules from 0 to 10 degrees Leo, or July 22nd to August 1st. So, if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Completing a triad of fire energy, Leo roars along in the suit of Wands and the sphere of Mars. But Saturn represents a heavy and unyielding resistance and weight. So, we have a strong, active planet in a fiery sphere and a fiery sign. All perfectly happy together – almost.

In real-time astrology, the Sun began its transit of Air-sign Aquarius on January 19th. Aquarius is Leo’s polar opposite sign. Both signs have natural leadership qualities. Nonetheless, their methods will differ. Being fixed signs, the energies of both are to pick a goal or path and stick to it. In combination with the energy of this week’s card, conflict can spiral out of control. It’s too easy to go from firm convictions to stubbornness.

“Don’t punish me with brutality. C’mon talk to me so you can see what’s going on…”

When Mars enters Earth-sign Capricorn on January 24th we have great self-discipline. Resistance brings out the best in us. We focus on pursuing our goals. Orders, bossing or bullying by others brings out our strength and fighting spirit.

“Stiff competition – If I go up, you take me higher. Stiff competition – and when I’m down, you take me higher…”

On January 25th Mercury retrograde in Aquarius backs up into Capricorn. Saturn-ruled Cap has little patience for trivialities. We speak only after careful thought and may be terse. This is a good time for re-evaluating our professional lives and careers. We’re concerned with our reputations and very ambitious too.

Shadow

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of the Five of Wands includes recklessness. Also rash action, anger and poor sportsmanship. Aggressive confrontation.

Light

Let’s focus on rising to meet the challenges we face. We can settle conflicts and disputes with the best possible solutions and ideas.

Alchemy

Power colors: orange, yellow, red and amber (for Leo) as well as indigo and black (for Saturn).

Power stones: rubies, diamonds, amber, onyx, obsidian and jet. Wear these as jewelry or carry as power stones. They will enhance strength, perseverance and persistence along with creativity and pride.

Power metals: gold (Leo) along with lead (Saturn). Go for the yellow or rose gold! Remember that the alchemists strove to turn base metal (lead) into gold. This symbolizes the transformation from our basest selves to our highest selves.

Power fragrances: marigold, sunflower, valerian, comfrey, musk and patchouli. These will provide a clear head, a strong and passionate heart, and a courageous spirit this week.

Power foods: foods prepared with thyme or sunflower seeds. Tea brewed from comfrey. Beer brewed with hops (consumed in moderation of course). And all provide the same beneficial effects already described.
